As a livestock guardian dog they stay with the group of animals they protect, they guard them and confront predators by barking, and displaying very aggressive behavior. Akbash may attack or fight with a predator if it cannot drive it away. Akbash Dog Appearance

The Akbash has a medium-length double coat, there are no other accepted colors of the pure Akbash breed aside from white. They are not suited for extreme weather because of their long coats. Like other breeds of dogs, it is recommended to brush their fur occasionally especially during summer where they shed a lot. It is better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft and smell good.

It is best to keep their dental hygiene and nail care properly, periodontal disease is very common to dog whatever their size, brush their teeth several times a week to help remove tartar and bacteria and maintain the good condition of their teeth. Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Short, neatly trimmed nails keep the feet in good condition and prevent our dog’s legs from getting scratched when they excitedly jump up to greet us.

Akbash Size

Akbash is a large breed of dog weighing 34-64 kg and their height ranges from 69-81 cm. The exact size standards might vary but you can expect females to be slightly smaller than males.

Akbash is a rare pure breed dog that is loyal, affectionate, loving, and alert, they were bred to protect livestock and sheep, they are very suspicious that makes them good as a watchdog. They are hard to train because they’re making independent decisions while tending their flocks. They love their family a lot and they don’t mind cuddling on the couch for a long period of time.
