The American Water Spaniel is a rare dog that is originated in the United States, it belongs to the Spaniel breed of dog. American Water Spaniel Appearance

American Water Spaniel has a water-resistant double coat with a curly liver that comes in a variety of brown and chocolate-related shades. The color of the eyes should harmonize with the color of the coat, and should never be yellow and their skull is broad and carries long wide ears. The tail is not typically docked.

The Water Spaniel is easy to groom but it is recommended to brush their fur daily because they shed a lot. Their coat has an oily feel to it, which gives off a “doggy smell” so it is better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft and smell good.

The American Water Spaniel weighs around 11-18 kg (25 to 40 pounds) for female and 14-20 kg (30 to 45 pounds) for male, their height ranges around 38-46 cm (15 to 18 inches). The exact size standards might vary but you can expect females to be slightly smaller than males.

Pattern Baldness (Saddle Alopecia) It is gradual, symmetric thinning and loss of hair (alopecia) that usually begins by 6 to 9 months of age and progresses slowly until the affected areas are completely bald.
Cataracts It is an opacity in the lens of a dog’s eye, causing him to have blurry vision. If the cataract is small, it won’t likely disturb the dog’s vision too much, but cataracts must be monitored because the thicker and denser they become, the more likely it is they will lead to blindness.
