Boykin Spaniel Appearance

The Boykin is only slightly larger than the English Cocker Spaniel but much heavier through the body width. It’s coat is flat to moderately curly with medium length, fine hair with light feathering acceptable on the legs, feet, ears, chest, and belly, the fur color comes in the solid liver, brown or chocolate. Boykin puppy will have milky bluish-gold to amber eyes until a few months old, its tail is docked at the age of three days, leaving 1/3 length.

The Boykin is easy to groom but it is recommended to brush their fur daily because it is easy to tangle. It is better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft and smell good.

Boykin Spaniel Size

Boykin weighs around 11-16 kg (25 to 35 pounds) for females and 14-18 kg (30 to 40 pounds) for males, their height ranges around 36-43 cm (14 to 17 inches) for females and 41-46 cm (16 to 18 inches).

Boykin Spaniel is a sweet, loving, loyal and friendly dog which makes them an ideal pet at home, they are intelligent to that makes them easy to train and discipline. Like other breeds of dog, they are sometimes stubborn, sulky, energetic but with proper training and their ability to adapt in the environment, they can be a good playmate to children and to the other dogs at home.

Having a yard or a place where they can run freely is advisable, like other dogs they need a daily exercise to keep them fit and healthy. A simple walk in the morning will help them keep healthy and well socialized.

Degenerative Myelopathy It is a slowly progressive spinal cord disorder, it affects primarily older dogs, with symptoms typically beginning at eight years of age or older.
CataractsIt is an opacity in the lens of a dog’s eye, causing him to have blurry vision. If the cataract is small, it won’t likely disturb the dog’s vision too much, but cataracts must be monitored because the thicker and denser they become, the more likely it is they will lead to blindness.
