Brussels Griffon Dog
The Brussels Griffon is a toy breed of dog originated in Brussels, Belgium. It refers to the three different breeds which are Griffon Bruxellois, the Griffon Belge and the Petit Brabançon they are all the same except to their coat types and color. Griffon dog was bred to become a hunting dog that kills rats and they earn a nickname of “Monkeyface” when describing its appearance, they are intelligent and sturdy dogs.
Brussels Griffon Appearance
Brussels Griffon is a small breed of dog weighing around 4 to 5 kg. and their height is around 9 to 11 inches, they have a sturdy body built, domed heads, short noses, and an underbite. They come in two different coats, the wiry/rough and smooth coat, it can be red, black and tan, or black and reddish in color. Like other breeds of dog, it is better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft, silky and smell good.
It is best to keep their dental hygiene and nail care properly, periodontal disease is very common to dog whatever their size, brush their teeth several times a week to help remove tartar and bacteria and maintain the good condition of their teeth. Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Short, neatly trimmed nails keep the feet in good condition and prevent our dog’s legs from getting scratched when they excitedly jump up to greet us.

Griffon dog is a very lovely, sweet, friendly and affectionate dog, they have a strong desire to please their owner and they love to cuddle with them for a long period of time. They tend to be shy around the stranger and they are not an aggressive type of dog they are very sociable. They are also a good playmate to the children as long as we teach the children how to handle the dogs for the safety of the dogs and the children themselves.

Griffon dog has an average life span of 10 to 15 years, They are generally healthy but like other breeds of dogs, they are also prone to some diseases. Not all of them will get any or all of these diseases but the following are the common diseases they can have.
|Hip dysplasia||It is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints.|
|Allergies||It is a misguided reaction to foreign substances by the body’s immune system of your dog.|
|Cataracts||It is an opacity in the lens of a dog’s eye, causing him to have blurry vision. If the cataract is small, it won’t likely disturb the dog’s vision too much, but cataracts must be monitored because the thicker and denser they become, the more likely it is they will lead to blindness.|
|Patella Luxation||It occurs when the dog’s kneecap (patella) is dislocated from its normal anatomic position in the groove of the thigh bone.|
