Cheese has higher levels of calcium and vitamin D, which contribute to better bone and heart health for humans. But is potato soup safe and also healthy for your lovely pets? learn it below!

Can Dogs Eat Potato Soup?

The short answer is No. Potato soup is a delicious dish made of some ingredients such as potato, chicken broth, butter, flour, milk, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper which are dangerous or toxic for dogs to have.

Let’s break down below why potato soup is not a healthy option as food for your lovely dogs. The following are the common ingredients of potato soup that make it not a healthy meal for your dogs:

Potatoes

Can dogs eat potatoes? Raw potatoes, like tomatoes, contain solanine, which is poisonous to some dogs. Cooking a potato, on the other hand, lowers the amounts of solanine.  If you do give your dog a potato, make sure it’s baked or boiled with no extra ingredients.

The potatoes on the potato soup have extra seasoning which makes it not safe to feed to your lovely pets.

Chicken Broth

Can dogs eat chicken broth? The chicken broth itself meaning without any seasoning is healthy food for your dogs. For short-term or recurring supplementation, chicken broth might be a beneficial addition to your dog’s diet. Dehydration, diarrhea, upset stomach, finicky eating, healthy joints, and more can all benefit from it.

However, the chicken broth is just one of the other ingredients that mix together in potato soup so even though the broth itself is healthy it becomes not healthy once it mixes in the other ingredients of potato soup.

Butter

Can dogs eat butter? It is not recommended for dogs to eat any food with butter, too much of it can cause pancreatitis.

Flour

Can dogs have flour in their food? Flour isn’t necessary for dogs to eat, and it can cause allergies in certain animals. However, flour is used to help bind components in many dog diets and treats. You’ll want to use whole-grain flours more often—flours that employ the entire grain and retain all of the grain’s inherent benefits.

Milk

Can dogs have milk? Many dogs are lactose intolerant, which means they have trouble digesting milk, and dairy products are a primary cause of food intolerance in dogs. Some lactose-intolerant dogs have difficulty drinking milk, but they may tolerate dairy products such as cheese and plain yogurt, which are often simpler to digest than pure milk. Others are allergic to dairy products in general.

Onion and Garlic

Can dogs eat onion and garlic? Dogs are poisoned by all components of the onion plant, including the meat, leaves, juice, and processed powders. Onions and the rest of the allium family (garlic, shallots, leeks, and chives) are toxic to dogs, whether raw or cooked, dried or powdered.

Salt and Pepper

Can dogs have food with salt and pepper? Although salt (sodium) is a natural component that your dog’s body needs, too much can cause serious illness or even death. Although a small amount of black pepper is usually considered safe for dogs, large amounts might cause stomach distress.

Frequently Ask Question (FAQ):

Can dogs eat mashed potatoes?

Yes, your lovely pet may eat this all-time favorite dish as long as the potatoes are roasted rather than boiled and no salt, spices, milk, or butter are added. Mashed potatoes, on the other hand, will not provide much nutritious benefit to your dog.
