Can Dogs Eat Tempura Shrimp?
The short answer is No. Dogs should not eat any deep-fried foods like fried chicken and any type of tempura including tempura shrimp. Oily and overly fatty foods can cause stomach aches or worse pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) that can be life-threatening if not treated properly and as soon as possible.
A small amount of tempura shrimp won’t harm your dog but it is still best to avoid giving it to him not only because it is oily but it is coated with a batter that contains different spices like onion and garlic that is toxic for dogs. Onion and garlic can cause oxidative damage (source: an imbalance between production and accumulation of oxygen reactive species (ROS) in cells and tissues and the ability of a biological system to detoxify these reactive products). The red blood cell will be destroyed in a process known as hemolysis, which will result in hemolytic anemia that can lead to a fatal condition.
If your dog accidentally ate a lot of tempura shrimp it is best to call your vet for supervision.
