Cane Corso Appearance

Cane Corso’s head is large and their forehead should be flat, their eyes are almond in shape that comes in dark color but sometimes it will depend on the color of their coat. They have a short, stiff coat with a light undercoat, the color of it can be black, gray, red, or fawn and may or may not have a brindle pattern. They shed twice a year and like other breeds of dog, it is better to bathe and groom them as necessary, used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft, silky, and smell good. 

Dog Ear Infections is a common condition in dogs that can affect one or both ears, check their ears at least once to twice a week for redness or a bad odor it is an indication of Ear Infections. To prevent ear infections in dogs always make sure that it is clean, use a dog ear cleaner and gently wipe it using a cotton ball dampened with an ear cleaner to your dog’s ears.

It is best to keep their dental hygiene and nail care properly too, periodontal disease is very common to dog whatever their size, brush their teeth several times a week to help remove tartar and bacteria and maintain the good condition of their teeth. Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Cane Corso is a large breed of dog, they are well-muscled and less bulky dog than to its closely related Neapolitan Mastiff breed, Cane Corso weigh around 40 to 45 kg. for females and 45 to 50 kg. for males, and their height is around 58-66 cm for females and 62–70 cm for males.

The Cane Corso is very obedient and affectionate to their owner, they love to please their owner and enjoy cuddling with them for a long period of time. They are very protective and can be very aggressive toward strangers which makes them best as a guard dog. Early socialization can make them a good companion to other animals in the house, they are also lovely, sweet and a good playmate to the children as long as we teach the children how to handle the dogs for the safety of the dogs and the children themselves. Corso is an intelligent dog eager for challenges which makes them easy to train.

Corso dog has an average life span of 10 to 12 years, They are generally healthy and don’t suffer from any known hereditary health problems, but like other breeds of dogs, they are also prone to some diseases. Not all of them will get any or all of these diseases but the following are the common diseases they can have.

Progressive Retinal AtrophyIt is characterized by the bilateral degeneration of the retina, causing progressive vision loss culminating in blindness.
Periodontal Disease it is an inflammation of some or all of a tooth’s deep supporting structures, it happens when food and bacteria build up along the gums and form plaque that when combined with saliva and minerals will transform into calculus or also known as tartar.
Canine Eye Inflammation If your dog is suffering from eye inflammation in the outer skin and middle (muscle, connective tissue, and glands) of the eyes it is classified as Blepharitis, and if your dog is suffering from eye inflammation in the iris and ciliary body of the uvea of the eye it is classified as anterior uveitis, this may affect your dog’s vision and needs meditate veterinarian attention.
It is a misguided reaction to foreign substances by the body’s immune system of your dogs.
