Cocker Spaniel Appearance

English Cocker Spaniel is known as Cocker Spaniel in the United Kingdom, they are bigger than American Cocker weighing around 12-15 kg (26 to 32 pounds) for females and 13-15 kg (28 to 34 pounds) for males, their height ranges from 38-41 cm (15 to 16 inches) for females and 41-43 cm (16 to 17 inches) for males. English Cocker’s common colors of fur are black, liver, brown, red, and golden with black or brown. They have a long muzzle, and their eyes are not as prominent and the coat is less abundant.

American Cocker Spaniel is known as Cocker Spaniel in the United States, they are a little smaller than English Cocker weighing around 9-11 kg (20 to 25 pounds) for females and 11-14 kg (25 to 30 pounds) for males, their height ranges around 36-38 cm (14 to 15 inches) for females and 38-41 cm (15 to 16 inches) for males. American Cocker’s common colors of the fur are black, black, and tan, any solid color other than black, and parti-color. They have rounder eyes, a domed skull, a shorter muzzle, and more clearly pronounced eyebrows than the English Cockers.

They need regular brushing of hair to avoid hair matting, bathe, and groom them as necessary, and use the dog shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft, silky, and smell good. Doing this as early as they age will make them feel comfortable in the process and make it easier for you to groom and bathe your dog.

Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Short, neatly trimmed nails keep the feet in good condition and prevent our dog’s legs and our legs too from getting scratched when they excitedly jump up to greet us.

Retinal DysplasiaIt is an eye disease affecting the retina of animals, usually a nonprogressive disease and can be caused by viral infections, drugs, vitamin A deficiency, or genetic defects. Retinal dysplasia is characterized by folds or rosettes (round clumps) of the retinal tissue.
Hip DysplasiaIt is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints.

Feeding & Nutrition

Dog’s diet should be appropriate to their age, size, and activity. The Cocker Spaniel can do well in dry dog food formulated for a small to a medium-size breed of dogs, or even home-cooked food as long as it suits their needs. Don’t give too many treats because it can make them obese. Water is also a very important part of their diet, make sure to have easy access to fresh and clean water all the time.
