The coonhound or Coondog is a hunting dog bred for hunting, game animals, and working dog originated in the United States. There are six distinct breeds of Coondog.

The Coonhound has six different types and its appearance depends on that but the common feature of them is their sturdy body structure, and being so affectionate especially to their owner.
The Coonhound dog is a type of scent hound, they are good hunting dogs that love to run and do retrieving games. Most of these breeds are a sturdy, smart, alert, sweet, loving and intelligent dog, Depending on the size and specific type they are good playmates to children and also can play along to the other dogs in the house.
Coonhound has an average life span of 15 years, they are generally healthy but like other breeds of dogs, they are also prone to some diseases. Not all types of Spaniel will get any or all of these diseases but the following is the common diseases a Spaniel breeds can have.
|Episodic Falling||It is an ‘exercise-induced hypertonicity disorder’ meaning that there is increased muscle tone and the muscles are unable to relax.|
|Syringomyelia||It is a generic term referring to a disorder in which a cyst or cavity forms within the spinal cord. This cyst, called a syrinx, can expand and elongate over time, destroying the spinal cord.|
|Retinal Dysplasia||It is an eye disease affecting the retina of animals, usually a nonprogressive disease and can be caused by viral infections, drugs, vitamin A deficiency, or genetic defects. Retinal dysplasia is characterized by folds or rosettes (round clumps) of the retinal tissue.|
|Hip Dysplasia||It is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints.|
