The  English Foxhound is a breed of dog that is a cousin of the American Foxhound. They were developed in England to follow and catch or attack the red fox. They are good hunting dogs that commonly use in mountain hunting. Many English Foxhounds also compete in Foxhound Performance Trials, which grade the dogs on their pack hunting skills. This breed likes the company of other breeds of dogs but it can be a single companion too especially in hiking.

English Foxhounds are a great family pet companion in the house but they are not advisable to live in a small space like an apartment, a house with a backyard is suitable for them to live in to have them a place where they can play and run freely. Give them a regular physical and mental exercise where they can use their energy, a walk every day or playing frisbee is an ideal regular activity for them it will also help them to be more sociable, fit and healthy.

English Foxhound Appearance

English Foxhound has a skull and a long muzzle, their legs are muscular, straight-boned, and their paws are like to cat that is rounded. The English Foxhounds have a shiny, short, dense coat with a hard texture. They usually come in a tricolor pattern of black, white, and tan, but they can also be white with the hare (more tan than black and white, giving the look of a hare), badger (a mixture of white, gray, brown, and black hairs), tan, red, or yellow.

They do shed a lot of furs that’s why it is recommended to brush their fur daily. It is better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft and smell good. It is best to keep their dental hygiene and nail care properly, periodontal disease is very common to dog whatever their size, brush their teeth several times a week to help remove tartar and bacteria and maintain the good condition of their teeth. Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Short, neatly trimmed nails keep the feet in good condition and prevent our dog’s legs from getting scratched when they excitedly jump up to greet us.

If they live in a suburban area such as a neighborhood, they should have a fenced-in yard and be taken on multiple walks daily.

Like other breeds of dogs early socialization can make them comfortable with other dogs in the house, It is an active breed that enjoys tracking foxes and has the stamina to run all day with few breaks. They are also a good playmate to the children as long as we teach the children how to handle the dogs for the safety of the dogs and the children themselves.

EpilepsyIt is a disorder that causes seizures in the dog. Epilepsy can be treated with medications, but it cannot be cured. A dog can live a full and healthy life with the proper management of this hereditary disorder.
