English Shepherd Appearance

The English Shepherd is a medium-sized dog that has a sturdy body built, their head is less rounded than Aussie and they have a long tail. The coat is medium length and can be straight, wavy, or curly, the feathering is on the legs and tail, as well as on the ear. The common color of their fur is sable and white (clear and shaded), tricolor, black and white, and black and tan.

Like Australian Shepherd,  English Shepherd is a heavy shedder especially during spring, they are easy to groom but it is recommended to brush their fur daily. It is better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft and smell good.

English Shepherdcoat doesn’t suit extremely hot weather, they are not advisable to stay outdoor during this season, they are prone to heatstroke, make sure to give them enough clean cold water, and stay in the cool place indoors for their safety. English Shepherd is more comfortable in a cold season.

English Shepherd weighs around 20-27 kg (40 to 60 pounds) for males and 18-23 kg (40 to 50 pounds) for females, their height is around 48-58 cm (19 to 23 inches) for males and 46-56 cm (18 to 22 inches) for females.

The English Shepherd is a loyal dog, it has a unique type of kindness for those people who lives with them, they are intelligent and very adaptable that makes them easy to train. They love their owners a lot that they don’t mind cuddling on the couch for a long period of time. The early socialization of  English Shepherd can make them comfortable with other dogs in the house, they can be also a good playmate to the children as long as it trained properly, and we also need to teach the children how to handle the dogs for the safety of the dogs and the children itself.

They are advisable to live in a house with large yard where they can run freely to used their energy, make sure your yard has strong and tall fence to prevent them from running after other animals.

Diabetes MellitusIt is a disease state by which the body suffers from either an absolute shortage of insulin (Type I or insulin-dependent) or from an incorrect response from the cells to the insulin that is being produced, a condition termed insulin resistance (Type II or insulin resistant).
Hip Dysplasia
It is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints.
MDR1
(multi-drug resistance-1)
It is generally found in many herding breeds, some sighthound breeds, and many mixed-breed dogs. The dogs that have a mutation in the MDR1 gene, which inhibits their ability to remove certain drugs from the brain and can lead up to a buildup of toxins, may have severe adverse reactions to some common drugs, including seizures, tremors, disorientation, blindness, lack of muscle control or even death.
