Italian Greyhound

The Italian Greyhound or Mini greyhound is an Italian breed of dog, they’re little hound dogs that hunt, play coursing games, and race greyhounds. They were a favored companion of noblewomen in Italy throughout the Middle Ages, but their specialization, aside from being a lapdog, is hunting small game with speed, endurance, and tenacity.

Italian Greyhound is a small dog that makes excellent apartment pets, they do not, however, tolerate being left alone at home for long periods of time during the day. They’re extremely sensitive and require constant companionship.

Greyhounds are amiable, intelligent, courageous, and determined canines, but they may be stubborn, which is why appropriate crate training is essential.

Italian Greyhound Appearance

The Italian Sighthound is the smallest among all sighthounds, they weigh around 3.6 kg to 5 kg and their height is around 32 to 38 cm. It has a deep chest, with a tucked-up abdomen, long slender legs, and a long neck that tapers down to a small head. The head is long and pointed. Their gait should be high-stepping and well-sprung, with good forward extension in the trot, and a fast gallop. Mini greyhound coat is short and glossy like satin and feels soft to the touch, it comes in different shades like black, blue, and Isabelle (beige-yellow) in any shade; there may be white markings, but on the chest and feet only. Like other breeds of dogs, it is recommended to brush their fur occasionally. It is also better to bathe and groom them as necessary and used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft, silky, and smell good.

It is best to keep their dental hygiene and nail care properly, periodontal disease is very common to dog whatever their size, brush their teeth several times a week to help remove tartar and bacteria and maintain the good condition of their teeth. Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Short, neatly trimmed nails keep the feet in good condition and prevent our dog’s legs from getting scratched when they excitedly jump up to greet us.
