Pug is a great family pet companion, they are mischievous and sweet lap dog. Pugs can do well in a small space like living in an apartment, they are a little bit challenging in terms of training but they can be the best dog even for the first time fur parent. They are prone to separation anxiety so make sure to have someone who will look for them if you are away. A large family will do best for them. Like any other breed of dog, they need enough exercise to keep them fit and healthy.

Pug Appearance

Pug has a strong and solid body build, deep chest, unique wrinkled face, dark round eyes and a short-muzzled face. Their ears have two distinct shapes the “rose” and “button”. The “Rose” ears are smaller than the standard style of “button” ears and are folded with the front edge against the side of the head, their tail is commonly curled.

Pugs are a double-coated dog, it is short, fine, and glossy and comes in a variety of colors including fawn and black. Like other breeds of dog, it is better to bathe and groom them as necessary, used the right shampoo and conditioner for their fur to make it soft, silky, and smell good. 

It is best to keep their dental hygiene and nail care properly too, periodontal disease is very common to dog whatever their size, brush their teeth several times a week to help remove tartar and bacteria and maintain the good condition of their teeth. Trim their nails once or twice a month to prevent injury in your dogs, long nails can also cause arthritis or other health concern in dogs. Short, neatly trimmed nails keep the feet in good condition and prevent our dog’s legs and our legs too from getting scratched when they excitedly jump up to greet us.

Pugs is a small dog and belong to a Toy Dog group of the American Kennel Club, they weigh around 6-8 kg. their height ranges from 25-33 cm tall at the shoulder.

Pug was bred to become a family pet companion of the rich Chinese were they are originated, this dog is not a fan of hunting and just love to cuddle on the couch with their owner, they are very affectionate and love to be with their family all the time, because of it, separation anxiety might be a problem if they’re left alone for a long time if you are going to leave for work and no one can look for them make sure to have some distraction toys so they won’t get bored and back as much as possible.

They are intelligent but very mischievous that is why training them is a little bit challenging, Pug loves to play and so having other pets in the house won’t be a problem as long as they have early socialization. If you want a sweet and funny lovely dog companion they might be best for you.

Pug dog has an average life span of 11 to 15 years, They are generally healthy and don’t suffer from any known hereditary health problems, but like other breeds of dogs, they are also prone to some diseases. Not all of them will get any or all of these diseases but the following are the common diseases they can have.

Ear InfectionsIt is a common canine health problem, and it can be caused by allergies, yeast, ear mites, bacteria, hair growth deep in the ear canal, and more.
Periodontal Disease it is an inflammation of some or all of a tooth’s deep supporting structures, it happens when food and bacteria build up along the gums and form plaque that when combined with saliva and minerals will transform into calculus or also known as tartar.
Canine Eye Inflammation If your dog is suffering from eye inflammation in the outer skin and middle (muscle, connective tissue, and glands) of the eyes it is classified as Blepharitis, and if your dog is suffering from eye inflammation in the iris and ciliary body of the uvea of the eye it is classified as anterior uveitis, this may affect your dog’s vision and needs meditate veterinarian attention.
AllergiesIt is a misguided reaction to foreign substances by the body’s immune system of your dogs.
Hip DysplasiaIt is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints.
